Attention

Hello Follower

This is not a blog. I will do a prediction blog before mania, but this is not it. If you live in Atlanta, listen to 790 am. If not then you can listen on a computer, or you can get an app for your ipod/phone/pad, or an android phone. I will be on the Wrestlemania Zone Show. Look it up at 790thezone.com, and you can listen there, or it will walk you through putting the app on your phone.

Thank You

It's the Final Countdown!!!!!!!

Hello All

So we are one week away from the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania. In case you did not know, this year’s mania will take place in Atlanta Ga. I will be there; I hope to see you there.

This week’s blog will be a nice and easy one. The last few weeks, I have been really hard on the two main promotions in the business (WWE and TNA). The reason is that I feel like the two companies have taken a few steps back since, I guess about the beginning of the year. But today we will have a nice blog. Today I will talk about the lead up to Mania.

This year’s Wrestlemania is shaping up to be a great card. I would not put it up against some of the greatest Manias of all time (4, 6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 22, and 24, in no particular order), but I think that it is coming along very well. These are the matches I am looking most forward to in order.

Let’s start with Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole. Normally I would not be looking forward to this match. Let’s think about this. On one side you have a man who has not wrestled a regular schedule in almost 15 years, against a pencil neck announcer. This is not supposed to be a compelling match up. But guess what, I am looking very forward to it. This all started when Jerry Lawler had a WWE championship match on Raw, back in November. Cole cost Lawler the match and it has been building ever since. Cole has been getting the best of Lawler a lot lately, which is making this more exciting. I want to see Cole get destroyed by Lawler.

The next match I am going to talk about is Randy Orton vs. C. M. Punk. This feud actually goes back almost 3 years. In 2008 Orton beat up Punk back stage before the Unforgiven pay per view. Because of the assault, Punk had to forfeit his World Heavyweight Championship. Punk has been waiting to get back at Orton ever since. Punk became the leader of the group, The Nexus, and has used them to get back at Orton, interfering in two of Orton’s WWE championship matches. The Nexus has been taken out one by one, at the hands of Orton, and now it will be Orton and Punk one on one.

Another match I am looking forward to is the World Heavyweight Championship match. Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio. These 2 have the least amount of history relative to the other matches, but this one is very intriguing. Del Rio, as you know by now, is the Royal Rumble winner. That means he gets a shot at a championship at mania. Since winning that match, Del Rio has been relentless. He has been fighting Edge every chance he gets. The two of these guys have been battling back and forth. I wasn’t very excited about Del Rio winning the Rumble, because I thought maybe some of the other guys should have gotten a shot at the title, but Del Rio is making me a believer.

Now we get to what I consider the double main event. The reason I think they are double main events is because, in my opinion, one will be the best match and the other has had the most entertaining build up, and could be a great match. I am talking about the Miz vs. John Cena for the WWE championship. This rivalry goes back a few years. When the Miz separated from John Morrison as a tag team and became his own wrestler, the first big rivalry he had was vs. Cena. When Cena was out for a few weeks, Miz would come out to the ring, challenge him to a match, and force the ref to declare Miz the winner when Cena did not come out. That was just classic. And now that Miz is the champion, he has been getting the best of John Cena. Jumping him after matches, hitting him with the belt during Cena’s interviews, pretty much having his way with him. It will be great to see what will happen when Cena can finally get his hands on him. And if that wasn’t enough the Rock, has made it a point to call out the Miz, and Cena. So I cannot wait to see what will happen when they all get together.

And lastly, this next match will blow the roof off of the dome. The Undertaker vs. Triple H. The Undertaker has an undefeated streak at Wrestlemania that goes back more than 2 decades. He has never lost. And in doing so he has defeated some of the best in the business and has won championships. So, yearly guys line up to see if they can end the streak. Triple H is the latest to step up to the plate. They even have a bit of a feud. 10 years ago, back at mania 17, these two had a great match. Obviously Taker won the match, but it was a lot closer than most would have thought. And with 10 years under their belts, these two have become the most respected (at least by the fans) men in the business. This match will be well worth the price of admission.

Mania is a week away. These are the matches I will be looking the most forward to. Next week I will have some predictions, but now just think about these 5 matches!

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is my invitation?

Hello All

So I as I said on the last blog, I do not want to write one where I would “kill” people or companies in the business on a weekly basis. I am a huge fan of the business and I don’t want to sit up here and write on a computer, how I could do things better, or what I would do if I were running any of these companies. But I also wanted to write a blog that I thought would be very real. A place where fans could come and read something from a fan (just like you). Someone whom you may know. Someone who won’t act like he is smarter than you, and or bigger than the business. Unfortunately, this week will be another blog that is not very positive. But I will try my hardest not to make this as bad as some would think. This week’s blog is going to be about the WWE Hall of Fame.

This year the WWE is inducting 5 people (so far). Shawn Michaels, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, “Bullet” Bob Armstrong, Sunny, and Drew Carey. Of these 5 there is only one no brainer, sure fire, hall of famer. Shawn Michaels. Michaels is a legend in pro wrestling. If you have been watching pro wrestling in the last 20 years, than you know all about Michaels. But beyond Shawn Michaels, you have a very strange group of inductees, and this seems to be becoming a pattern for the WWE.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan was a good wrestler, back in the 80s. But he was never a main event guy. He never (as far as I remember), was the main event of any WWE pay per view. He never won a WWE Championship, of any kind. And yes he did win the 1st ever Royal Rumble, but in the beginning of this event, the winner did not get a shot at the championship at Wrestlemania. After his years in WWE he went to WCW and won a few titles, but that was when the inmates were running the asylum. And even those titles were not the big ones. Hell, David Arquette won the WCW title, and Duggan could not. He was a fan favorite in the 80s, but not a Hall of Famer.

“Bullet” Bob Armstrong was before my time, but everything I have read about him says that he is a Hall of Famer.

Sunny!? Sunny!? Whos is Sunny you ask? Sunny is billed as the “1st diva” in the WWE. Now I understand she was one of the first women to come around during the early 90s (the dark days) in the WWE. She was a manager, and she managed many WWE tag team champions back then. She aided in ushering in the Attitude Era. She was very sexy and scantily clad when she came to the ring. She was the most downloaded woman on AOL in 1996, and was even named Manager of the year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I understand she did a lot back then, but when a woman like Miss Elizabeth is not in the Hall, I don’t think Sunny should make it. She was a big deal for that one year, 2 tops, but I can’t tell you when anyone has ever been compared to Sunny. Sunny was great for her time, and did help to make young men watch wrestling at the time, but I do not think she is a Hall of Famer.

Last, and most certainly least: DREW CAREY. WWE does normally induct a celebrity every year into the Hall of Fame. This must stop. Carey is a fan of the WWE. He was in the 2001 Royal Rumble. But isn’t anyone’s Hall of Fame supposed to be a sacred place where you honor all of the participants in your business, whatever that may be. It could be baseball, football, acting, dance, sales, etc. whatever it is, if you have a Hall of Fame, you should put people in there, so when someone looks back through the years, they will see who you were. So with all of that said, what significance does Drew Carey have with the sport of Professional Wrestling.

There are a number of people in the WWE Hall of Fame, who should not be there. If putting these people in makes WWE feel good, I would like to throw my name in the hat.

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LLLLIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Where are the new stars?

Hello All

The 2 biggest promotions in the country (maybe even the world), are WWE and TNA. I know that most of the wrestling fans in America are WWE fans. The numbers say it all. They are the biggest promotion in the country. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t talk about the other companies.

When I started this blog I decided it would not be one of those blogs that goes around and kills guys. I do not want to talk bad about anyone. I love this business. The reason for me doing this blog is to show people a different side of things. Things that I think about from time to time, that maybe others don’t. So with all of that being said, today’s blog is going to be about taking TNA to task.

I have been watching TNA consistently for maybe the last 3 years. I have been paying very close attention to the guys there. Those that are young rookies just starting their careers, those who have made a name there, or those who went from WWE over there. But lately I have been noticing a trend that I am not very happy about. I don’t think TNA is doing enough to get their guys over. What I mean by that is I don’t think that they are doing a good enough job of making their guys the main draw.

TNA has been around since 2002, but they were associated with the National Wrestling Alliance. In 2007, TNA broke away from the NWA and stood on their own. Since the split, there have been 14 TNA World Championship reigns by 8 different men. Only 3 of those men have never worked at WWE.

I don’t have a problem with guys moving from company to company. It’s called business. I get that. I also do not have a problem if a company decides they want to get guys from the competition and make them their champion. Maybe you see something that they did not, or maybe you can make a star out of what they have already started.

What I do have a problem with is the fact that more “TNA guys”, have not held the belt. If you keep grabbing guys from WWE, who are already stars, and you put your world title on them, how does that help TNA? If every time I read that a guy is leaving WWE to go to TNA will I think they are going to win the title?

Where are the guys who have come up with TNA? Where are the guys who were there when TNA was doing a weekly pay per view show, because when they first started out they were not on TV. Where are the guys who were making the X division that made TNA very unique? Besides AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe, where are the young stud athlete wrestlers, who I keep hearing about every week I watch TNA, and they keep telling me why they are great and the WWE is the devil?

It is time for TNA to stop relying on made superstars, and main eventers, and start to make their own.

AND THAT’S THE BOTTOM LLLLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has the title lost it's shine?

Hello All

Usually when I just write my blog I give you guys a look into my thought process about what is going in wrestling over the past week or two, but today I have a valid question for you all and I would like a real answer.

It's about the world championship. Over the past 5-10 years we have seen the 2 titles of the major promotions, WWE and WCW, go through a lot of changes. In WCW we saw the title won, and given back in the same night. We saw an actor win the title, and we saw the company go out of business all together. Then the title would go to the WWE. In WWE the title would be defended as the WCW championship, even though there was no WCW. Later the title would be unified with the WWE championship for 8 months. WWE decided to make different world championships for both of their brands. All of that being said I wonder has the Championship lost its value?

Let's look back a few years ago. In the past few decades we had guys going after the World championship all of the time. Hogan and Flair defined the WWE and WCW titles for the entire 90s. If you think about it, they both held the WWE titles from 90-93, and then the WCW titles from 93-00. Besides those 2 guys you had many of wrestling legends winning the championships. Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Brett Hart, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Sting. These men are staples in wrestling

Even in the early part of the 2000s, you had the Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, and Triple H. These guys are or will be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Then they separated the Championships and put one on Raw and one on Smackdown. For awhile the belts had a lot of prestige. So what has changed it from then to now?

I believe they have not done a great job getting their best wrestlers going after the titles. Think about the main events at Wrestlemania, Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio. What do we know about Del Rio.....? Your guess is as good as mine. I know nothing about him. I am not sure if he can carry the company as the champion, but he is the Royal Rumble winner. And just because the rumble winner has not won at Mania in the past 3 years, they have won the Championship before the year was over. So that means Del Rio will be the Man on Smackdown very soon.

And now for the other main event. The Miz vs. John Cena. I know Miz has been champion for a few months, and has had a decent title reign. But let's think about this. 1st, besides beating Randy Orton twice (with help from the New Nexus, not once but both times), who has the Miz beaten? Jerry Lawler? John Morrison? Don't get me wrong, I think Morrison is very close to being a big star for this company, and if he and the Miz would have met in the main event at a pay per view, then I believe Morrison could have won the title. But there was no way he was going to win the title in the 1st match on Monday Night Raw. And now you have him fighting Cena at Mania. Does anyone believe Cena is going to lose, because I don’t? We all know he is going to win. But that isn’t even the most important feud Cena has going, leading into Mania. Cena and the Rock have a great feud brewing, and guess what.........it has nothing to do with the WWE Championship.

I hope in this next year, with the return of both Triple H and Undertaker, we will have more of an appreciation for the World Championship.
